A brief update on the hall. There is still no obvious and visible progress, but rest assured we are continuing to work towards completing the renovations as soon as possible.
Firstly, we’re continuing to explore options for an insurance claim and recovering funds from the previous contractor. However in the meantime, we recently met an independent Quantity Surveyor at the hall, and this week we received an initial proposal from a possible alternative contractor to finish all work. A separate inspection of the hall recently took place, involving our potential contractor, our architect and our structural engineer.
Once our Quantity Surveyor returns from holiday, he will be working with this group, to develop a workable budget and plan. We are conscious of the coming winter months, and will be looking to have the roof repaired and fully watertight as a priority. We will share any updates as we progress.
The Project Group of the Amulree Hall Committee
As we have previously communicated, the hall build has halted while we engage with our insurance company and explore opportunities to make a claim. We have also now arranged for an alternative contractor to survey the site and provide a quote, to bring the work up to the required standard and take the job through to completion.
Once we have the quotes, we will submit our insurance claim, which will include our loss of revenue from the events that would have been held if the work had been completed satisfactorily and on schedule. We should then be able to employ a new contractor and re-start the project.
We know that the hall closure is really frustrating for everyone but, for obvious reasons we are unable to estimate a timeline for reopening, but it remains our intention to complete the work and return the hall to the community as soon as possible. We will keep you updated as we know more.
The Amulree Hall Committee wanted to update you on the progress of the hall renovation project, including the unfortunate news that we have this week made the difficult decision to part company with our building contractor, and formally terminate his contract. This decision was taken, in full consideration of the interests of all stakeholders, including those individuals and organisations who have generously donated to the project, and those community members and visitors who will benefit from the renovated hall. We also wanted to provide firm assurances that we have the matter in hand and that we remain committed to successful project completion, at the earliest opportunity. We really appreciate your patience and ongoing support. If you have any questions, please email the Hall Committee at info@amulreehall.org.uk.
There had been queries regarding the work already done but after inspections by building control all were resolved and work continued. There has been quite a delay mainly regarding the steel work. As this is a significant cost it must be right. New drawings for the steel work are being done by a structural engineer as some erosion has been found in the steel within the concrete pillars and a slightly different design is needed. This all takes time.
The concrete is in round the back in the extension, the next big order is steel and windows. Phone box has been taken down in anticipation of the extension for disabled toilet.
It has been decided to “close” the hall for safety as the interior wall will be knocked through quite soon. If anyone needs to get into the hall please ask.
More updates when more work has been completed.
As you can see we are making progress with the build. External walls are up and roof trusses are on site. We are experiencing a bit of a delay while we reconfigure some of the steelwork but we hope that this will make the structure better and should save a few pennies in the long run.
We are now looking to the end of the project build and putting in place some of the finer details, one of which is how we show our thanks to the many people who have supported the project and donated money. We have thought to do a window vinyl of donors, much like the one in this photograph (below) from the Maddoch Centre in St Madoes. We are now asking folk if they are happy and want their name to appear on the window! We have a long list of names who have donated through the Crowdfunder but also many others who donated anonymously, would anyone who donated anonymously now wish that their name be included in the window for example?
Please can you reply with your responses to info@amulreehall.org.uk. as soon as possible so that we can progress with our planning? Thank you!
The Amulree Hall Committee are delighted to announce that the main fundraising phase of our redevelopment project has been completed. As of 7 April 2023 Paul Haley Design & Build was able to start work on the building phase of the development. Work will carry on throughout the summer with a proposed end date of 31 October 2023 when we plan to have a ‘Grand Opening’ that the community and all involved will be invited to.
Please look out for updates and photos on our website and social media and feel free to pop along and have a look. We will continue to fundraise locally for all the wee added extras and finishing touches that might be required and our Crowdfunder is still live – any donations are always gladly received. Please feel free to spread the word.
We look forward to welcoming you again soon.
The Amulree Hall Committee are pleased to thank the many local people and estates that have supported the development project to date and also the following funders for their generosity.

The village of Amulree is nestled at the start of Strathbraan and Glen Quaich in a rural but accessible location. Our local community is spread out over several miles in the beautiful landscape of Highland Perthshire.
The Hall has been used by the local community for social functions since 1954. We now want to extend the Hall to create a viable, dynamic social hub catering for the needs of residents in the local area and also the many tourists that visit all year round.
We have been fundraising since the summer of 2021 and appreciate any donation large or small.
